British Royalty Commemoratives: 19th & 20th Century Royal Events in Britain Illustrated by Commemoratives
Published in Paperback by Schiffer Publishing, Ltd. (March, 1997)
Average review score:

The most definitive Royal Commemorative book I've seen. This is the most complete Royal Commemorative book I have yet to come across. It shows color and black and white photos of Royal Commemorative collectables past and present. With descriptive information and value. I am a avid collector and I consider this book to be my Bible. A must have for anyone who collects or is simply interested in the British Monarchy.
Well researched and illustrated. Worth 3 times the price! If you have any interest in the Royal Family, in history, or in items commemorating significant events relating to the Royal Family, then this is a book you simply can't do without. Whether you're a collector, an enthusiast, or simply curious about the vast spectrum of items available, you will find this book a sheer delight. Color plates and an extensive black & white collector and price guide make this book invaluable for collectors, appraisers, or anyone interested in the growing fascination with the Royal Family - and the investment opportunities associated with commemorative items. Doug Flynn and Alan Bolton have set a benchmark that others will struggle to ever improve upon. Highly recommended.

C S Lewis Images of His World
Published in Paperback by Eerdmans, William B.@publishin ()

A journey into the shadowlandsIf you love C.S. Lewis as much as I do, then you will find this book captivating, transporting you into the world of Jack as a boy and as a man, as a pagan and as a Christian. Hopefully it will be back in print soon. Every page is lavishly illustrated with photos and artwork of people and places that were dear to Lewis. What makes it even more special are the descriptions of each place or person by lewis himself, taken from his letters and books. IT is the best gift a Lewis fan could receive, too, so look for a friend!
A wonderfully descriptive bookIt is most unfortunate that this superb book has gone out of print. It is a pictorial tour of the places and people familiar to C.S. Lewis. Next to each picture or illustration is a caption explaining the relation to Lewis, with most of the country scenes having vivid, picturesque quotes from Lewis himself. This book can be read in one sitting or slowly digested over several days. If you ever find a copy, hang on to it. It's a lovely book.

Can't Quit You, Baby
Published in Hardcover by Atheneum (June, 1988)

Attention Book GroupsThis is the perfect book group selection. A wonderful book that provides so much to talk about. We all loved it!
beautiful, moving, deepI found this book startling on so many levels - the emotional honesty about the characters, the intellectual honesty about race, the sheer fascination of Tweet's description of her youth and Cornelia's struggle to come back from alienation, the extraordinary vividness of the prose. The writer takes a big risk in making her own role explicit, but the pay-off at the end is tremendous. Just a great book.

Cape May, New Jersey : 2002 Calendar
Published in Calendar by Sea View Color (May, 2001)
Average review score:

Cape May CalendarGreat photos, attention to detail with resolution and content is suberb. Cape May is beautiful and this calendar shows that beauty very clearly.
Cape May Calendar 2002The Cape May Calendar of 2002 is a visual feast of Victorian Cape May, New Jersey. Architecture only seen in Cape May, New Jersey make this calendar a collector's "treasure" of a by-gone era.
The photographs are of the highest quailty and resolution. If you imagine the history of this Victorian resort town could ever be represented in print, then this calendar delivers! I could almost smell the sea breeze and hear the waves washing up on shore as I reviewed month after glorious month.
Finally, a true depiction of Cape May, New Jersey is caught on a medium that can often disappoint a buyer of artistic calendars. I anxiously await the 2003 calendar and the beauty it depicts of our nation's first "Resort."

Captive of the Heart
Published in Paperback by Avon (October, 1982)

I adore this book! This book is so great. It combines historical fact with fiction. The main character Nalin is memorable and to have Quannah Parker as the hero is a stroke of genius. Read it and then reread again. You will never forget it.
One of the best in his genre!Lisa thompson is only a girl when she is taken captive during a bankrobbery in the old West. She builds a warm friendship with one of the kidnappers, but he gets killed by her father and his friends, in an attempt to get her back. She runs away in anger, and is found half-dead in the desert by Comanches. When she is adopted by a chief, she turns her back to all whites and becomes a true Comanche-warrior. She falls in love with a young Comanche chief, but their relationship faces a lot of troubles before they get married and during their marriage. A beautiful story based on a historical Comanche chief with a lot of interesting background information.

The Case for Classical Christian Education
Published in Paperback by Crossway Books (January, 2003)
Average review score:

A welcome contribution to the current national dialogueIn The Case For Classical Christian Education, Douglas Wilson articulately and persuasively denounces the state that American public schools have fallen into with endemic and rampant illiteracy and below-grade literacy; poor performance in math, science, history, and geography; and even the prevalence of crime and drugs among the student population. The only way to improve things is to restore classical Christian education, which provides religious answers to the basic and profound matters of life, as well as the more mundane answers to practical everyday problems. The Case for Classical Christian Education is strongly recommended reading and a welcome contribution to the current national dialogue over public education reform and the role of the church sponsored school.
Revisiting the VisionDoug Wilson is the father of the Protestant classical Christian school movement. This book is a mature statement of why classical Christian schools are needed and what they stand for. Many have been introduced to the movement through his book Rediscovering the Lost Tools of Learning (Crossway, 1991). This book is a far better starting point. One does not have to agree with Rev. Wilson on all points to appreciate the distinctive vision this book outlines. It is highly recommended and should be read by every teacher, parent, student, and board member associated with classical Christian schools. Once again, we owe Doug Wilson an enormous debt.

Cat on a Blue Monday

Classic Midnight Louie, the best!Midnight Louie is at his best and most lovable in this romp through a murder at a cat show. How he is able to keep his excitable "Little Doll" under control and guide her to solving the mystery and other problems is quite engrossing. As always, Louie is the strong character and quite the inimitable tough private cat eye. A well plotted and well written book. Any cat lover and many a non-catlover mystery fan should love this book.
Midnight Louie is simply the cat's meow in my book!Midnight Louie, cat detective and tomcat about town (Las Vegas that is), and his "human," Temple Barr are on the prowl again after a mysterious happening at a cat show. Also, strange happenings occur at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church involving obscene phone calls, priestly secrets, and lots of cats. A good read which I couldn't put down. If you are a fan of Midnight Louis mysteries or any other Black Cat style mysteries, you'll enjoy this one. I couldn't put it down until I got to the very suspenseful ending. (And yes I do own a black cat!)

Catalog of Fishes
Published in Hardcover by California Academy of Sciences (May, 1998)
Average review score:

The Absolute Authority in Taxonomy of FishesThis book is a must for any Ichthyologist! An invaluable reference!
Catalog of FishesIf anyone seriously thinks taxonomy is dead, let them review this masterly trio of tomes, each the size of a large city's phonebook. The authors have scanned the world literature to provide lists of all known scientific names for fishes--through about 1996--including synonomies, status, location of types, and other pertinent information. A labour of love that all ichthyologists will benefit from. Comes with a CD-ROM version that, alas, get 2 stars because its program code is too old to handle so much data without serious glitching. Indispensible to anyone doing systematics, biodiversity, or even legislation for fishes. Pricey, but well worth its cost in real, long-term value. Only question: How will it be ammended/updated?
